Canterbury has officially withdrawn from the pursuit of Daly Cherry-Evans, as confirmed by football general manager Phil Gould.
The 36-year-old halfback stirred speculation about a potential transfer to Belmore following his unexpected announcement earlier this week; however, Gould has dismissed any active interest from the Bulldogs.
“I have a great deal of respect for DCE as an individual,” the Bulldogs’ chief stated during an interview with 9News Sydney.
“He’s a true asset to the sport, and I’ve admired his game throughout his career.
“But Daly Cherry-Evans will not be joining the Bulldogs.”

Earlier this week, Gould participated in the 100% Footy panel when Cherry-Evans first revealed his contract news but didn’t dismiss the possibility of a move at that time.

With several promising playmaking options available and considering Cameron Ciraldo’s vision for the club, Canterbury has chosen not to pursue the Sea Eagles captain.
Toby Sexton, whose contract with the Bulldogs extends only for this season, has shown notable improvement, while young prospect Mitch Woods is secured on a long-term deal.
Both South Sydney and Brisbane have also made it clear that they won’t be attempting to recruit Cherry-Evans following his recent announcement. Meanwhile, Roosters coach Trent Robinson has indicated that his team would be keen on the player.
