Jake Fraser-McGurk has been omitted from Australia’s squad for the upcoming T20 series against the West Indies.
The promising young talent, once considered a possible successor to David Warner, has struggled for form this year and has not made the 16-man roster.
Marcus Stoinis and Xavier Barlett are also set to miss out on the five-match series, which will mark the start of the lead-up to next year’s T20 World Cup.

In their stead, Mitch Owen has been named in the squad, poised for his debut following a standout BBL season with the Hobart Hurricanes.
Mitchell Marsh also returns to lead the team after an impressive IPL campaign, during which he notched up 627 runs for the Lucknow Super Giants.
Cameron Green, Cooper Connolly, and Josh Hazlewood are included in the lineup, but notable absentees are Pat Cummins, Travis Head, and Mitchell Starc, all of whom will return home after the Test series against the Windies.
“With a packed T20 schedule ahead, including this series, three matches against South Africa and New Zealand, and five against India at home, we’re refining our squad for the upcoming World Cup in the subcontinent,” chief selector George Bailey stated.
“There are plenty of players not in this squad who can still make a case for selection in the Indian Series and through the Big Bash.”

“We are excited about the chemistry, role development, and combinations as we progress toward the World Cup.
“It’s a thrilling phase for our T20 setup.”
The series begins on July 21, immediately following the three-Test series.
