Rugby league legend Darryl Brohman has delivered a scathing assessment of the Panthers following their fourth consecutive defeat last night, stating that their hopes of securing a fifth premiership are dashed and speculating they may even fall out of the top eight.
The Panthers suffered a 22-18 loss at home against the Cowboys last night and haven’t celebrated a victory since their opening-round win over the Sharks in Las Vegas.
“Penrith, my beloved Panthers, are really struggling,” Brohman remarked on 2GB’s The Continuous Call Team.
“They’ve now dropped four straight games. They could easily be sitting at 0-5 if Cronulla had taken their chances in that first match in Vegas.”
“It’s definitely a challenging time for them right now.”
“I believe they’re feeling the absence of their fullback Dylan Edwards more keenly than they might care to admit. He plays a pivotal role with his hit-ups—similar to [James] Tedesco. He’ll charge in for a hit-up on the first tackle and then again on the fourth, relieving pressure off the entire team. They really feel his absence. If he returns, I’m confident they’ll find their winning form again.”
“However, considering the player departures and the impact they’ve had, it seems to be catching up with them. Honestly, I’m inclined to say they won’t win the championship this year. There’s a real chance they might not even make the top eight!”
