Josh Giddey showcased an impressive performance, tallying 28 points, 16 rebounds, and 11 assists, leading the Chicago Bulls to a 119-111 victory over the Miami Heat in a match that held significant seeding consequences.
Giddey’s achievement marked his career-high seventh triple-double, propelling the Bulls to ninth place (37-43) and placing them a game ahead of Miami in the Eastern Conference standings. They also closed the gap to just half a game behind Atlanta for the eighth seed. The team finishing in ninth gets a home encounter against the tenth seed during the play-in tournament, with the victor then facing the loser of the matchup between the seventh and eighth seeds.
Kevin Huerter contributed 22 points to the win, while Nikola Vucevic added 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Coby White finished with 18 points, and Matas Buzelis chipped in 17, helping Chicago secure its eighth victory in 11 outings. Notably, they completed a clean sweep of the season series against the Heat.
Miami had recently enjoyed a resurgence, winning seven out of their last ten after enduring a streak of ten consecutive losses.
Tyler Herro led Miami’s scoring with 30 points, while Bam Adebayo added 18 and Davion Mitchell netted 17.
Andrew Wiggins returned to the court with 14 points after missing six games due to a right hamstring injury, having participated in only 16 of Miami’s 31 games since his transfer from Golden State as part of the Jimmy Butler trade.
Despite having their leading trio of Wiggins, Adebayo, and Herro on the floor together for the first time since March 27, the Heat were unable to secure a win.
The Bulls continued their impressive form, regrouping after allowing a 14-point lead in the third quarter to dwindle to just five. Mitchell’s three-pointer narrowed the score to 100-95, but the Bulls quickly responded with a 10-2 run.
Giddey’s seven triple-doubles rank as the second-most for a Bulls player in a single season, trailing only Michael Jordan’s record of 15 in the 1988-89 season.
In upcoming matchups, the Heat are set to visit New Orleans on Saturday AEST, while the Bulls will host Washington for their final home game of the regular season.
