Australia’s Georgia Amoore may have to wait longer than expected to make her WNBA debut after sustaining a potentially season-ending injury in the opening week of training.
Amoore, who was chosen as the sixth overall pick in the 2025 draft, began her inaugural training camp with the Washington Mystics earlier this week.
However, the 24-year-old has already faced a significant setback, having suffered an ACL injury during practice.
She was viewed as a frontrunner for the point guard position with the Mystics but will now need to race against time to return to the court this season.

The team announced on Wednesday that Amoore had indeed sustained the injury and had undergone scans following the training session, though a specific timeline for her recovery has yet to be announced.
“Amoore has suffered a right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during practice,” read the club’s statement.
“She and the team will consider treatment and rehabilitation options, and an update will be provided in due course.”
This mishap occurs just three days prior to her anticipated debut in a pre-season match against Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever.
Should it be confirmed as a complete rupture, Amoore could face a year on the sidelines.

The Mystics will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Amoore, especially considering her impressive performance at the collegiate level last season.
The Victorian native averaged 19.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game during her time with the Kentucky Wildcats.
This year’s WNBA draft saw her being selected as the highest Australian since Liz Cambage, who was picked second overall in 2011.
