In a remarkable turnaround, Dyson Daniels made a significant impact in 2025 as he transitioned from New Orleans to Atlanta, earning a crucial starting position and ultimately being awarded the league’s Most Improved Player.
The Australian guard showcased an outstanding defensive performance throughout the season, breaking records for steals and tipped passes, and he was even nominated as a finalist for the Defensive Player of the Year award as a result.
Daniels, however, is ambitious and believes he can achieve the Most Improved Player accolade in consecutive seasons. “I genuinely think I can do it again,” he remarked.

The 22-year-old’s ascent from a rotational player to one of the top defensive talents in the NBA this year may only signal the beginning of his development.
During an interview with 9News Melbourne’s Trent Kniese, he expressed, “Last year, I mentioned that I could earn the Most Improved Player, and to be honest, I think I can win it again. I believe there is so much more improvement within me that will allow me to take home that award once more.”
Daniels is also optimistic about the Hawks’ potential to break free from the Play-In tournament and establish themselves as formidable contenders in the Eastern Conference. “I thrive in playoff situations; the intensity of these games is palpable, and we aspire to be a playoff team that makes a deep run,” he stated.
“I genuinely believe our young squad is capable. We want to be a postseason team, aiming for over 50 wins this year, and I hope we can achieve that.”
Daniels experienced a remarkable jump from averaging 5.8 points per game last season to 14.1 this year, complementing his defensive prowess, signifying that there is an abundance of room for further improvement on that end.
He aspires to join the ranks of All-Star calibre players, stating, “This year, I made significant strides, which sets the foundation for the rest of my career. The goal now is to continue progressing annually.”
“Becoming an All-Star would be a fantastic achievement, but the year I had and regaining the confidence that was absent during my first two years is what I truly needed, and I believe the future looks bright.”
The Aussie has his sights set on honing his offensive capabilities. “Certainly, improving my offence is key. Defence has always been a strength of mine and has kept me in the league, but I knew I had offensive potential. I had a productive off-season and an excellent Olympics. Now, approaching my third year, I’m ready to take that leap,” he noted.
“I would attribute this leap primarily to confidence. I’ve had a larger role here (than in New Orleans), playing alongside Trae (Young), which has simplified things for me. Everything clicked, allowing me to make impactful plays.”
