Central Coast Mariners coach Emily Husband believes that ‘untapped talent’ Isabel Gomez rightfully deserves a place in the Matildas squad after the midfielder was recognised as the PFA Player of the Month.
The 22-year-old, who narrowly missed her first national team call-up in November due to injury, has shone in the Ninja A-League since returning from a knee setback, scoring two goals and providing two assists in her last three outings.
With a crucial match against Melbourne Victory this Friday night on the horizon, where the Mariners could clinch a finals spot with just one point, Husband heaped praise on her standout midfielder.
“She’s been an incredible asset to the team,” the Mariners coach remarked.
“We celebrated her achievement, and the whole squad rallied around her; we’re absolutely thrilled for her winning Player of the Month.”

“Returning after being sidelined for almost three months due to injury and making such a huge impact as if she had never left is truly remarkable. It really highlights the skills Gomez possesses.”
“To me, she’s an untapped asset, as she possesses numerous qualities that many players in Australia don’t have.”
“She needs to keep developing those skills and put her best foot forward to earn her place back in the Matildas because that’s where she rightfully belongs.”
“Her attacking prowess is fantastic, and defensively, she anticipates plays better than many others.”
“She’s an exceptional talent, and being so young means a brilliant career is ahead of her, without a doubt.”
In the same press conference, teammate Jessika Nash also praised Gomez, calling her ‘one of the most gifted footballers I’ve ever encountered’.
The duo has been vital in propelling the Mariners to fifth place in the table with two matches remaining.
“Izzy Gomez is absolutely outstanding. I believe she’s one of the most talented players I’ve ever seen in this sport,” Nash stated.
“Her current form really elevates our performance.”
“She’s scoring goals and has been pivotal during significant moments this season, even with limited playing time. That’s a testament to her skill.”
“To be able to perform right off the bat after such a serious injury really speaks volumes about her resilience. We’re keen to make the most of all her strengths during matches.”
