Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has successfully undergone hamstring surgery, as confirmed by the Premier League club on Saturday.
Having recently returned from a lengthy spell out due to a muscle injury, Fofana managed to feature in just two league matches before being omitted from Thursday’s victory against Tottenham Hotspur.
“Wesley was evaluated by specialists this week after sustaining a muscle injury. Following this evaluation, it was determined that surgery would be necessary,” stated Chelsea in an official announcement.
“The 24-year-old will now start his recovery process and will be under the care of the club’s medical team at Cobham in the upcoming weeks.”
This season, Fofana has made just 14 appearances in the Premier League for Enzo Maresca’s side. Following their narrow 1-0 win over London rivals Spurs, Chelsea has climbed to fourth place in the league standings with eight matches still to play.
