Fenerbahce’s head coach, Jose Mourinho, has received a three-match ban and a fine of approximately £6,000 (AUD $7,734.00) following an incident in the Istanbul derby where he was seen grabbing the nose of Galatasaray’s manager, Okan Buruk, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced on Saturday.
This altercation took place at the conclusion of the Turkish Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for Mourinho’s team at home.
Following the final whistle, a significant brawl erupted between players from both teams, resulting in three players being shown red cards—two from Galatasaray. After the heated confrontation, the 62-year-old Portuguese manager was observed pinching Buruk’s nose, causing him to theatrically collapse to the ground.
“Mourinho is prohibited from accessing the dressing room and the technical area for three official matches,” the TFF stated in their release.
As a result, Mourinho will be absent for upcoming fixtures against Trabzonspor, Sivasspor, and Kayserispor.
Fenerbahce currently sit second in the Super Lig, trailing their rivals Galatasaray by six points, although they do have a game in hand.
