Kevin Walters has addressed the criticisms aimed at the Broncos, particularly regarding their culture, while also standing up for star fullback Reece Walsh in light of his off-field reputation.
Even after being released by the club at the conclusion of last season, Walters has opted not to publicly disparage Brisbane, with whom he has spent a considerable amount of time as both a player and a coach.
The 57-year-old has been intimately involved with the current roster over recent seasons and led the Broncos to a grand final appearance less than two years ago.

Walsh has been a focal point of Walters’ coaching, being a polarising figure in the league who has quickly risen to become one of the NRL’s true superstar talents.
In a discussion during the club’s pre-season trial on Sunday, Walters was asked about the alleged ‘rockstar’ lifestyle at Red Hill and Walsh’s involvement in it.
“It’s absolute nonsense, I can assure you from my experience within the club … the Broncos are indeed a rockstar club,” he stated on Fox League.
“If you want to paint your nails, go for it. Do what brings you joy, so long as you perform on the field.”
“That was never a concern for me. I encouraged them to express their individuality; when they do, they can fully embrace who they are, and that’s when they truly excel.”
Walters also dismissed criticisms regarding Walsh’s on-field performance, which has seen some errors become apparent during a challenging 2024 season.
“That’s simply the way he plays, and we should be nurturing that,” the former coach remarked.

“You can’t coach that out of him. If you attempt to do so, you’ll miss out on his potential.”
“There are going to be spectacular moments as well as less impressive ones, but that’s all part of his growth – he’s just 22 years old.”
Walsh was absent from Brisbane’s 50-12 triumph over the Titans last weekend but is expected to play in their second and final trial match next weekend.
New addition Hayze Perham donned the No.1 jersey in the commanding victory, while Billy Walters took on a role in the halves as coach Michael Maguire weighs his options ahead of the season opener against the Sydney Roosters on March 6.
