Brian Riemer, the coach of the Danish national football team, has revealed that during his time as assistant to Thomas Frank at Brentford, he often joked about potentially moving to Tottenham if they ever decided to leave their roles at the club.
Following a 2-1 victory over Northern Ireland at Parken Stadium, Riemer is now gearing up for a friendly match against Lithuania in Odense on Tuesday.
After the win against Northern Ireland, Riemer was asked by Tipsbladet to share his thoughts on the speculation surrounding Frank, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham as a replacement for Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed despite guiding the team to Europa League success.
“Let me put it this way: Tottenham has always been my favourite club, and we often joked at Brentford that if we were to leave, it would be for Tottenham.”
“So we’ll have to see if he gets a call, but for now, I’m happy here and plan to stay,” Riemer said with a broad smile.
“This club has faced some challenges over the past season, and there’s a lot of work ahead. However, Thomas absolutely deserves a chance. He has done an incredible job.”
“There’s probably not much precedent in Danish football history for someone achieving as much as he has. I sincerely hope he gets that opportunity (to move to a bigger club) one day. Whether that’s at Tottenham or elsewhere remains to be seen, but he truly deserves it. I’m not privy to the latest developments, but I genuinely wish him the best,” Riemer added.
