Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves has been slapped with a fine of $78,000 AUD for using inappropriate language and making an obscene gesture towards a fan during a playoff match against the Los Angeles Lakers, as confirmed by NBA league operations president Byron Spruell.
The incident occurred when Edwards stepped in to defend teammate Rudy Gobert, who was being taunted by a Lakers supporter sitting courtside in the third quarter.
The Timberwolves ultimately secured a 117-95 victory in Game 1 of their first-round series on Saturday in Los Angeles.

While standing near the sideline, Edwards quipped to the fan about Gobert’s hefty salary, which reportedly runs into millions.
The altercation concluded with Edwards making a vulgar gesture towards his groin while audibly declaring, “my dick is bigger than yours.”
This season alone, Edwards has racked up fines exceeding $448,000 AUD due to various infractions, such as showing a finger to a fan during a game, swearing in a live interview, criticising officials, and using inappropriate language in yet another post-match interview.
The Lakers and Timberwolves are set to clash again for Game 2 of their playoff series on Wednesday in Los Angeles.
