Sunderland have officially secured the signing of Enzo Le Fee from Roma for a reported club record fee, following the French midfielder’s pivotal role in their promotion back to the Premier League.
The 25-year-old joined the Black Cats on a six-month loan in January and quickly became instrumental in Sunderland’s success during the Championship playoffs, where they finished fourth in the league.
Le Fee has now signed a four-year contract with the club, which will reportedly cost Sunderland £19.3 million after a clause in his loan agreement was activated upon their promotion.
“I mentioned before the play-off final that my heart was with Sunderland – I wanted to make this my permanent home, making that match the most important of my life. Together, we achieved it,” Le Fee stated on the club’s website.
“Since I arrived, I’ve truly enjoyed my time here, alongside my teammates and the passionate supporters. We’ve had an incredible journey, and now we’re ready to take the next step.”
Before joining Sunderland, Le Fee worked under the club’s manager, Regis Le Bris, at Lorient before moving to Rennes and then making a high-profile transfer to Roma less than a year ago.
However, during his time in Italy, he managed to make just 10 appearances before being loaned out.
