Reed Mahoney has narrowly avoided suspension following two contentious incidents during Canterbury’s intense round four victory against the Sharks. Unfortunately for his teammate Sitili Tupouniua, he wasn’t so fortunate.
The hooker found himself in trouble after connecting with Daniel Atkinson’s head with a shoulder on Saturday night, yet he managed to steer clear of the sin bin.
In contrast, Mahoney has been slapped with a grade one dangerous contact charge for the tackle on Atkinson, along with a grade one careless high tackle charge stemming from another incident in the 20-6 win at Shark Park.
Both charges could lead to a fine of $1800 if Mahoney opts for an early guilty plea.
On the flip side, Tupouniua will miss one match due to suspension after accepting an early guilty plea for a late hit on Braydon Trindall in the final minute of the game.

If Tupouniua decides to contest the charge but is unsuccessful, he could be sidelined for two matches instead of one.
He received a 10-minute ban towards the end of the match.
