Macarthur Bulls vs Newcastle Jets – Match Highlights | Isuzu UTE A-League 2024-25 | Round 24
In an electrifying encounter on Friday night, Macarthur Bulls striker Harrison Sawyer netted his maiden goals in the Isuzu UTE A-League, securing a thrilling 3-3 draw against the Newcastle Jets. This dramatic comeback unfolded at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.
The Jets surged ahead with an early two-goal lead, thanks to Eli Adams and former Bulls forward Lachie Rose, who both made their mark before halftime. However, a four-goal second half saw the points shared, making it a memorable 300th Isuzu UTE A-League appearance for Macarthur captain Luke Brattan.
Sawyer kickstarted the Bulls’ resurgence with his debut A-League goal, but Adams quickly restored Newcastle’s two-goal cushion. Yet, determined pressure from Macarthur culminated in two late goals, with Tomislav Uskok narrowing the gap before Sawyer equalised in dramatic fashion with a goal in stoppage time.
The Jets struck early, leading 2-0 within just seven minutes. Lachie Rose opened the scoring just over a minute into the match, directing a header into the top-right corner following a perfect cross from Thomas Aquilina. Rose chose not to celebrate, showing respect as his teammates gathered to acknowledge the swift opener.

Five minutes later, Newcastle doubled their advantage.
Eli Adams deftly finished over Macarthur’s debutant goalkeeper Alexander Robinson to make it 2-0, having been pivotal in the build-up starting deep in Jets’ territory.
A clever ball from Callum Timmins found Adams in stride, allowing him to convert effortlessly and put the Jets firmly in control.

The Jets dominated the first 15 minutes of the match, with Rose continuing to make an impact. After scoring the opening goal, he sought another with a powerful long-range shot that Robinson expertly saved, followed closely by another attempt that curled just wide of the target.
With half an hour gone and the Jets still commanding the game, milestone man Luke Brattan almost reduced the deficit with a left-footed shot aimed at the bottom-left corner, following a deflected free-kick that fell back to him.
As the second half commenced, the Jets maintained their 2-0 lead, but Bulls substitute Harrison Sawyer injected new life into the match, scoring just minutes after entering the field.
Macarthur’s hopes seemed dashed when Adams struck again, restoring Newcastle’s two-goal lead with a stunning effort from the edge of the box, which crashed in off the post.
However, Tomislav Uskok pulled a goal back for Macarthur with a powerful header in the 82nd minute, setting the stage for a dramatic finale in Campbelltown.
The Bulls pressed hard in the closing moments, driving for an equaliser. In five minutes of added time, Marin Jakolis had a brilliant chance from close range, only to see his shot hit the crossbar.
Just as it seemed the Jets would secure a 3-2 victory, Sawyer emerged in the 95th minute to notch his second goal of the evening, ensuring a well-deserved point for the Bulls in a thrilling contest at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.
