Sam Konstas is reportedly under threat of being dropped from the top order for the upcoming World Test Championship final, as Australian selectors appear to be seeking a new partner for Usman Khawaja.
The 19-year-old made headlines throughout the summer with a bold performance on Boxing Day against India, where he faced off against the formidable quick, Jasprit Bumrah.
However, inconsistent performances at various levels have raised doubts about his place in the squad, with Marnus Labuschagne favoured to take on the role, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
The selectors are set to confirm the 15-member squad for the one-off Test at Lord’s, alongside the team for the subsequent tour of the West Indies.
Nonetheless, it seems Konstas will be overlooked for the Lord’s fixture.
That said, his omission does not eliminate him from consideration for the West Indies series, which marks the start of the next WTC cycle.

Although Labuschagne has yet to open for Australia in Test matches.
The right-handed batsman struggled initially before bouncing back with scores of 72 and 70 against India at the MCG.
Despite a recent dip in form, the 30-year-old is not expected to lose his place in the top six for Australia, as he has been considered for an opening position in the past.
Following David Warner’s retirement in early 2024, Labuschagne emerged as a strong candidate to join Khawaja at the top of the order.
Vice-captain Steve Smith briefly assumed the opener role after Warner’s exit, but has since returned to his usual position at No. 4.

With Cameron Green expected to return to the side now that he is fully fit, Josh Inglis’ place in the line-up is also under scrutiny.
Despite scoring a century on his Test debut, the Australian selectors seem to prefer Green and Labuschagne over Inglis for the match at Lord’s.
