The head coach of India’s men’s national football team, Gautam Gambhir, has urged for the postponement of all matches against Pakistan until the ongoing conflict between the two nations is resolved.
On Wednesday morning, the Indian military launched several missiles targeting regions controlled by Pakistan, which they asserted was in retaliation to a terrorist attack in Kashmir last month. Pakistan responded by describing the missile strikes as an act of war.
These neighbouring nations have endured political strife for decades, with escalating tensions now raising substantial concerns.
The cricket boards of both nations have not engaged in any bilateral series since 2013; however, they frequently face each other during ICC events like World Cups and Champions Trophies.
Earlier this year, during the Champions Trophy, India opted not to travel to Pakistan, despite the event being hosted there.
Instead, the ICC permitted some matches to be held in the UAE, where the Indian team remained, citing security issues within Pakistan.

In light of the recent developments, Gambhir expressed agreement that the two nations should avoid facing each other on the field, even at neutral venues.
“My personal view on this is a resounding no… there should be no interaction between India and Pakistan,” Gambhir stated.
“Ultimately, it will be up to the government to determine whether we play against them or not.
“I have stated before that no cricket match, Bollywood film, or any other interaction holds more value than the lives of Indian soldiers and citizens.
“Matches will continue, movies will be made, and singers will perform, but nothing compares to the loss of a family member.”

“This matter is not within my control; it falls to the BCCI and, more crucially, the government to evaluate whether matches should go ahead against them.
“We must respect whatever decision they make and refrain from politicising the situation.”
India and Pakistan are presently slated to compete in the men’s Asia Cup scheduled for September.
Other teams participating in the tournament include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Oman, and the UAE.
India are the reigning champions.
Since the missile attack on Wednesday, neither the BCCI nor the PCB have issued any statements.
