Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that he won’t be afforded much time to implement changes as the manager of Manchester United, following the team’s latest defeat against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
A stunning early strike from former United player Anthony Elanga secured a straightforward victory for Forest at the City Ground, marking the 13th loss for the visitors in this season’s Premier League campaign.
This setback means United are now just one defeat away from matching their record of 14 Premier League losses in the 2023-24 season, leaving them stuck in 13th place while Amorim grapples with the challenge of initiating significant improvements.
“At Manchester United, time is a luxury you don’t have,” Amorim stated. “I must make things right quickly.
“The pressure here can be enormous. We began the match by conceding an early goal, allowing Nottingham to settle into their preferred defensive style with plenty of players behind the ball. They also possess incredibly quick players for counter-attacks.
“Even so, I felt we managed the game relatively well, particularly in the second half. We pushed forward, but once again, our finishing in the final third left a lot to be desired.”
Alejandro Garnacho was notably inefficient in front of goal for United, taking six of the team’s total 24 attempts but failing to truly challenge Forest’s goalkeeper Matz Sels.
Amorim has previously defended the young Argentine and reiterated that Garnacho’s overall contributions meet the required standards.
“He’s doing everything right,” Amorim remarked. “He’s putting in the effort. There are days when a player might do all the correct things, yet struggle in the final third; that’s part of the game.
“For me, the most crucial aspect is that he is willing to track back defensively. Naturally, we want players who can take on defenders one-on-one. At times, he may be trying a bit too hard.
“I believe he genuinely wants to support the team and perform at his best. Although he may not always make the optimal decisions, it’s hard to single out any one player for criticism today.
