Nottingham Forest’s manager Nuno Espirito Santo addressed the media in his most recent press conference as he gears up for the upcoming clash against Aston Villa at Villa Park this weekend.
Both teams are strong contenders for European qualification this season, with Villa hoping to achieve an incredible double of the Champions League and FA Cup.
Forest aims to maintain their position in the top four, but the task has become more challenging as Nuno confirmed that they will be without key defender Ola Aina.
The full-back had to leave the pitch in the 40th minute during Tuesday night’s narrow 1-0 victory over Manchester United at the City Ground, and Nuno revealed he will be out for “a while” due to a calf injury.
“He has undergone a scan and he will be out for an extended period. It’s a calf issue, and he won’t be available.
“This is a significant setback for us. We will miss his quality, his talent, and the understanding he has built with his teammates. His absence will be felt.”
“Injuries affect different players in various ways. We will assess his condition as we go. He will definitely miss the Villa match, and he may also be doubtful for the Everton game. We’re optimistic that he’ll return before the season concludes.”
Eric da Silva Moreira is also sidelined, compounding Forest’s defensive woes this season.
“He sustained an injury while playing for the Germany Under-19 national team during their second match. He has been out for two to three weeks,” Nuno stated regarding Moreira.
“He is starting to reintegrate into the squad with individual training sessions. However, it may be too soon for him to be ready for this match.”
“With Ola unavailable, we’ll need to explore other options to address our defensive challenges. Losing Ola is significant, but we must find ways to adapt.”
In a more positive update, the Forest manager confirmed that winger Callum Hudson-Odoi will be fit for the journey to the West Midlands, which will provide a significant boost to the team.
“We are monitoring his progress on a daily basis. We are hopeful for continued improvement as we move closer to match day.”
“He will be available for this game, and that’s a major advantage for us. We missed him in the last match, and he has been instrumental for our team.”
