HONG KONG: Australia has its “secret weapon” back in the frame.
Maddison Levi showcased her incredible try-scoring abilities once again on Friday, lighting up the opening day of the revamped Hong Kong Sevens at the stunning Kai Tak Stadium.
The 22-year-old returned to the pitch for the first time since suffering a thumb fracture during the Perth Sevens back in January.

Levi wasted no time, scoring three tries against Spain during a commanding 54-12 victory in Pool C.
Even after her injury hiatus, she entered this tournament as the season’s leading scorer, having notched 30 tries—nine clear of Brazil’s Thalia Costa.
“Call it a cheat code or iconic; either way, it’s incredibly useful to have someone who boasts a 50 per cent strike rate every time they have the ball,” said Australia coach Tim Walsh.
“The more she can get the ball, the more opportunities we create, but we must earn that by maintaining our tempo and crafting space for her to shine.”
Feeling a sense of nerves ahead of her return, Levi was pleased to quickly settle into the gameplay.
“After being out for a bit, you start to second-guess yourself. It was good to find my rhythm and feel comfortable on the field,” she remarked.

“The tries come quite easily due to the fantastic team supporting me.”
With players like Charlotte Caslick, Bienne Terita, Demi Hayes, and Heidi Dennis absent, Levi is stepping up to shoulder more responsibility in Hong Kong.
Having missed the previous tournament in Vancouver, where Australia exited in the semi-finals, she expressed her frustration, joking that her family would rather not watch games with her because of her animated reactions.
“It’s frustrating to not be on the field to assist or share my insights with the team,” she shared.
Australia’s women’s team is set to continue their pursuit against Canada at 4:57pm AEDT on Friday, while the men prepare for a thrilling clash with New Zealand at 8:30pm AEDT.
