Kevin De Bruyne, the Manchester City midfielder, has announced that he will be departing the club after a remarkable decade, coinciding with the end of his contract.
The Belgian star revealed his decision on social media, remarking, “Whether you like it or not, it’s time to bid farewell.”
“These will be my final months as a Manchester City player,” the midfielder stated.
“Writing this isn’t easy, but as footballers, we all come to terms with the fact that this day eventually arrives. That day has come – and you deserve to hear it from me first.”
De Bruyne will depart as both a Manchester City icon and a Premier League legend. Since joining the club in 2015, he has made 413 appearances and netted 106 goals.
During his tenure, he has clinched six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five League Cups and one Champions League, being a pivotal figure in most of these achievements.
He holds the record for the second-most assists in Premier League history, trailing only Ryan Giggs, and is one of just four players to have been awarded the division’s Player of the Season on two occasions.
“I cannot express enough gratitude to the city, the club, the staff, my teammates, my friends, and my family for this incredible 10-year journey,” he added.
“Every story must reach its conclusion, but this chapter has undoubtedly been the most rewarding.
“Let’s savour these final moments together!”
The 33-year-old has been strongly associated with potential moves to clubs in the Saudi Pro League and MLS, suggesting that a switch to one of those leagues is more probable than a transfer to another European club.
