PSV manager Peter Bosz remains optimistic as his team prepares for their return match in London following last week’s significant defeat.
Arsenal triumphed over PSV with a staggering 7-1 scoreline in Eindhoven, marking the heaviest loss ever for a Dutch club in European competition. While many have deemed PSV’s chances of advancing to the quarter-finals as almost non-existent, Bosz is dismissive of those forecasts.
“Naturally, it would require a massive miracle. But miracles do happen occasionally, don’t they?” Bosz remarked prior to Wednesday’s Champions League clash. “I believe everyone who played last week carries a thought in their heads that this is not going to happen again.”
“As young boys, everyone dreamed of playing in stadiums like this. It’s amazing for them to be on this stage now. There’s ample motivation to make this a memorable match.”
PSV regained vital confidence over the weekend by clinching their first league victory since January 12. This newfound belief will be crucial as they face the daunting task ahead, and goalkeeper Walter Benitez will need all the confidence he can muster after his mistakes against Arsenal last week.
Yet, Peter Bosz has unwavering faith in his goalkeeper. “I am content with Walter. Of course, he was impacted by that 7-1 defeat against Arsenal. During that match, we never felt we had control. That can make things particularly challenging for a goalkeeper.”
‘We don’t want that’
Bosz also indicated that there will be changes to the squad for Wednesday’s encounter, as several players will be given the opportunity to shine on the European stage.
“From now on, the Eredivisie takes precedence for us,” Bosz continued at the press briefing. “We still have nine matches left, and we intend to perform well in all of them.”
“Considering the league, I will be making some decisions. How did the players respond after the last game, for instance? The lads aren’t aware of the lineup yet; I’ll inform them first.”
Among those set to feature is defender Armando Obispo, who lost his starting position to Ryan Flamingo earlier this season and joined Bosz at the press conference. Obispo approaches the London fixture with a fearless mindset.
“If we were to lose 7-1 once more, we’d be subjected to all sorts of backlash. We definitely don’t want that,” Obispo stated. “I don’t find it difficult to get myself motivated for tomorrow. We aim to conclude our Champions League journey on a high note.”
Arsenal and PSV are scheduled to kick off on Wednesday at 21:00 CET.
