A shamed Victorian jockey has been handed a 10-year ban for intentionally throwing races as part of a significant betting scandal.
Lewis German, aged 25, has been barred from racing for a decade after being found guilty by the Victorian Racing Tribunal.
German confessed to riding his horses to lose races during the period between April 21 and August 31 in 2022.

The tribunal heard that professional punter Noah Brash placed a total of 89 lay bets—betting against a horse winning a race—on rides by German throughout that timeframe.
Brash reportedly wagered about $2.5 million on these bets and made a profit of $259,494 overall.
In contrast, German maintains he gained no financial benefit whatsoever.

“I’m not here to share a sob story,” German stated during the tribunal proceedings.
“I am here to express my regret to the racing community and to all those who put their faith in me.
“I feel as though I have disappointed them.”
“I haven’t gained any money from this. I was under the impression there would be some compensation.
“I was led to believe I would receive payment initially, but I was probably too naive at the time.”
Another jockey, Michael Ploy, has also been charged in relation to this scandal.
Ploy is set to appear before the tribunal on March 31.
