Danish winger Jesper Lindstrom, currently with Everton, hasn’t found the back of the net in an astounding 77 consecutive matches. Nevertheless, the former Eintracht Frankfurt player is optimistic that his move to Liverpool will mark a turning point in his career following a difficult period in Naples.
According to Transfermarkt, Lindstrom’s market value sits at around €20 million (approximately AUD 30 million), making him one of the most prominent players without a goal to his name as of 8 March. He has appeared twice since then but has yet to break his scoring drought.
Lindstrom currently leads the list of players without goals, ahead of Geovany Quenda of Sporting Lisbon with 28 games, and Lee Kang-In from PSG, who has gone 23 matches without a goal.
“It’s frustrating because, as an attacking player, you’re expected to score and assist, but I had a challenging year in Naples. I’m starting to find my rhythm here, so I’m not overly anxious. I know I can score goals and create opportunities,” Lindstrom shared with bt.dk.
“I don’t believe I was given a fair chance in Italy,” remarked Lindstrom, who found it tough to adapt to the Italian playing style.
“The Italian league tends to be more defensive, and that doesn’t align well with my playing style. I thrive on more space,” he added, noting that communication with the coaching staff was also a barrier due to their limited English proficiency in Naples.
Jesper Lindstrom could be in line for a return to the Danish national team during the Nations League quarter-finals, set to take place this Thursday and Sunday in Copenhagen and Lisbon, respectively.
