Arsenal has officially appointed Andrea Berta as their new sporting director, as confirmed by the club on Sunday.
Berta, aged 53, takes over the position permanently, succeeding Edu Gaspar, who stepped down in November.
“I am absolutely delighted to be joining Arsenal at such an exciting time for the club,” Berta expressed in a statement.
“I’ve followed Arsenal’s development with great enthusiasm over the past few years and have admired the tremendous effort put into restoring the club as a prominent force in European football, backed by a fervent global fanbase.
“This club possesses incredible values and a rich heritage, and I am eager to contribute to building a successful future alongside a talented team.
“I am keen to begin my new role and particularly excited about experiencing my first match at Emirates Stadium with our supporters.”
Berta stood out among numerous candidates for the role, which also included former Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth and ex-Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky.
Having spent 12 years at Atletico Madrid, Berta played a significant role in reinstating the club as a contender for silverware in Spain, alongside giants like Real Madrid and Barcelona.
