Even though he faces potential imprisonment due to reckless driving in central Copenhagen, Mexican right-back Roberto Huescas will not face any disciplinary action from FC Copenhagen.
According to coach Jacob Neestrup, Huescas will not be subjected to internal consequences following his recent dangerous driving incident in the heart of Copenhagen, as reported by bt.dk.
The 21-year-old Mexican international could face up to 20 days in jail without parole after being caught driving at 111 km/h on Kalvebod Brygge, where the speed limit is only 50 km/h.
“We have decided internally that he will not undergo any club punishment, as he will be held accountable by the Danish legal system.”
“In my view, suspending him for a match or two would serve no real purpose other than to send a message,” stated Jacob Neestrup, adding that doing so would only penalise the club itself.
Huescas featured in the starting line-up as FC Copenhagen triumphed over Randers FC 1-0 in the opening round of the Superliga championship playoffs on Monday night, playing a vital role in assisting Magnus Mattsson’s decisive goal.
Neestrup is uncertain of the course of action if Huescas is convicted in the future.
“We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, but I can’t comment further beyond saying it will be addressed by the Danish judiciary. I believe that is the proper approach, which we will manage alongside our sporting director,” Neestrup commented to bold.dk.
The proceedings for Rodrigo Huescas are scheduled for April 28.
