Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel could be sidelined for as long as six weeks, as reported on Celtic TV and celticway.com.
“We’ve received updates and need to assess the next five to six weeks. That timeframe has been indicated to us,” he stated.
“We’re monitoring the situation daily, but the estimate given is around that time. Kasper believes it won’t be as long, but he’s certainly unavailable in the immediate future,” added Brendan Rodgers.
However, Schmeichel, who is Denmark’s first-choice goalkeeper, has expressed optimism to Rodgers about returning in time for a potential Scottish Cup final on 24 May.
In the meantime, backup goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo showcased his skills with a commendable league debut against Hearts, securing a clean sheet in a comfortable win at home.
Schmeichel sustained significant pain after landing awkwardly during Denmark’s Nations League match in Lisbon earlier this month.
The following day, on 24 April, Danish national team doctor Morten Boesen provided an update, indicating that initial X-ray results were reassuring.
“Kasper Schmeichel’s left shoulder was X-rayed last night, and thankfully, the results were normal,” he reported.
“He is in evident pain following the fall on his shoulder, so we will conduct further examinations, including an MRI scan,” Boesen added at the time.
Celtic have two remaining matches in the regular season, followed by five playoff fixtures in the Scottish league before heading into the Cup final.
