Brisbane Roar’s head coach, Alex Smith, has confirmed his re-signing with the Ninja A-League team.
Smith has committed to the 2025-26 season after achieving a record-breaking first full campaign in Brisbane.
Although the Roar didn’t qualify for the Finals Series, the team netted an impressive club-record total of 46 goals in the 2024-25 season, exceeding the previous high of 29. Additionally, their 8-2 thrashing of Western United marked the largest victory in the club’s history within the competition.

Under Smith’s guidance, players thrived, with CommBank Matildas standout Tameka Yallop having her most successful season yet, scoring 12 goals.
Furthermore, sisters Sharn and Laini Freier received Matildas selections, and several emerging talents—including Grace Kuilamu, Zara Kruger, Alicia Woods, Isabela Hoyos, and Ruby Cuthbert—were recognised with national youth team call-ups.

“I am genuinely honoured to extend my contract with Brisbane Roar,” Smith stated. “I am eager to continue the progress made over the last 18 months.”
“My aim has always been to restore this program to its rightful place. The advancements we’ve made have only solidified my belief that we will achieve this.”
“Our fans were remarkable last year, and I am determined to reward them for their unwavering support.”
Brisbane also enjoyed fantastic local backing during the past season, leading the league in average home attendance and setting a new record for a standalone Ninja A-League Women’s match, with 3,712 supporters at Perry Park during the Round 12 encounter against Adelaide United.

Brisbane Roar’s COO, Zac Anderson, remarked: “The extraordinary attendances at Perry Park during the 2024-25 season were a direct outcome of the exciting and captivating football our women’s team displayed.”
“We’ve made notable strides in various areas compared to the previous season, and it’s essential we build on this momentum as we head into the 2025-26 season.”
“Roar must return to playing finals football — and we are confident we are establishing the right environment and team to compete at that level.”
