The Brisbane Broncos secured a hard-fought 46-24 victory against a determined Wests Tigers side at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night, although the win came at a significant cost due to injuries.
Key players Jesse Arthars and Xavier Willison each scored two tries for the Broncos, but the night was marred by Adam Reynolds’ hamstring injury in the 46th minute, forcing him out of the game, while Brendan Piakura was left incapacitated after a collision.
Starford To’a also scored twice for the Tigers, who posed a serious threat during the first half.

Reynolds initially made an impact by scoring from a chip and chase in the 44th minute and successfully converting his own try.
However, the veteran playmaker, 34, pulled up after the kick, signalling to the coaching staff that he needed to exit the field. Video replays indicated that the hamstring injury occurred while executing the conversion.
In a reassuring turn, Reynolds was later spotted on the exercise bike, with reports suggesting it was merely tightness in his hamstring.
Last season, Reynolds struggled with injuries, managing to play only 13 games due to a minor hamstring tear and a neck injury requiring surgery.

Jesse Arthars began the match by scoring in the fourth minute, though the try was hotly debated as replays indicated he may have fumbled the ball during the grounding.
The Bunker reviewed the decision, focusing on Sunia Turuva’s involvement in the play, but ultimately awarded the try.
The Tigers responded with a try from young sensation Luke Laulilii ten minutes later, who scored in the corner thanks to a perfectly placed grubber by fellow teen Lachlan Galvin.

Broncos second-rower Piakura was next in the sin bin during the fourth round’s crackdown on high tackles, penalised for a dangerous tackle on Tigers prop Terrell May.
Piakura appeared to lift in the tackle, making contact with May’s head with considerable force.
As Dane Ginnane remarked during Fox League’s coverage, “It is crackdown weekend, but that one was hard to contest.”
Following that, the Tigers scored two quick tries from Sunia Turuva and To’a.
Jahream Bula assisted both tries, first setting up Turuva for a long-range effort after a Broncos dropout exploited the defence, then providing the ball for To’a to score.
Willison then struck back for Brisbane from dummy half, expertly grounding the ball on the line.
At half-time, the Broncos led the Tigers 14-12, thanks to Reynolds’ two-point field goal that snatched the lead.
Continuing his strong performance, Willison quickly secured his second try as the second half commenced.

After another impressive performance, Reynolds scored from a chip, only for the night to take a turn for the worse for the injury-riddled halfback.
The Tigers halfback Sione Fainu answered back with a try, but the Broncos quickly equalised with Arthars’ second score.
To’a added another try but was later sin-binned for a professional foul, receiving a yellow card as Reece Walsh converted a penalty kick post full-time siren.
In worrying moments towards the end of the match, Piakura was knocked unconscious while tackling Alex Twal, with his head making accidental contact with Twal’s hip.
The young Bronco required assistance from a medicab to leave the field but was reportedly coherent and alert following the match.
