Motorsport Australia is delighted to announce the appointment of Darren Tindal as the new General Manager of Motorsport Development.
This pivotal role underscores Motorsport Australia’s commitment to its primary responsibilities within the sport, providing strategic oversight across its members, clubs, and officials.
CEO of Motorsport Australia, Sunil Vohra commented that Tindal will spearhead initiatives centred on performance, delivery, and growth across all levels of the sport, possessing executive accountability for the organisation’s core operations at both state and club levels.
“Darren’s extensive leadership experience in motorsport brings a wealth of knowledge that will bolster our renewed focus on serving our members and the broader motorsport community,” stated Vohra.
“With a clear mandate to enhance value for Motorsport Australia licence holders, clubs, and officials, Darren’s appointment is a crucial step in our commitment to the sport’s future.”
During his tenure as CEO of Speedway Australia, Tindal successfully navigated the national governing body through a significant phase of growth and development, securing major government funding for facility improvements, increasing participation levels, and implementing a comprehensive five-year strategic roadmap.
At Motorsport Australia, Tindal will concentrate on reinforcing the pillars of motorsport through club racing, competition, championship frameworks, and the nation’s network of over 12,000 volunteer officials.
Additionally, Tindal will lead development efforts for Motorsport Australia’s 540+ affiliated clubs, crafting national strategies for growth and enhancing engagement with the club and state racing communities. This appointment is deemed vital for aligning grassroots participation with the organisation’s overarching goals.
“Darren is a dynamic and highly regarded leader with a demonstrated ability to instigate change, nurture strong teams, and achieve meaningful results. This focus is all about delivering real value to our members and clubs,” Vohra remarked.
As the senior leader in officiating for Australia, Tindal will oversee the implementation of new training and development pathways, in alignment with FIA standards, aimed at enhancing the capabilities and recognition of officials.
Tindal will also take on executive responsibility for motorsport governance, which includes oversight of the Australian Motor Racing Commission, Board appointed commissions, and national advisory panels.
He will commence his role on Monday, 16 June, working closely with senior figures within the motorsport team, including David Stuart, General Manager of Motorsport Operations, Campbell Smith, Off Road Manager, and Alan Vaughan, Rally Manager. We also extend our best wishes to Lisa Crampton as she moves on from Motorsport Australia.
