Australian teammate Daniel Hughes played for Sussex, scoring 12 and 25. He currently sits sixth in the County Division One run-scorers chart with a tally of 340 at an average of 48.57.
O’Neill’s time at Nottinghamshire has come to an end due to his short-term visa, with captain Haseeb Hameed singing his praises for his valuable contribution.
“Fergie’s been exceptional; I can’t praise him highly enough,” remarked Nottinghamshire captain Haseeb Hameed.
“For a 24-year-old to come in for his first overseas stint and achieve what he has is remarkable. The most significant thing I can say about him is how quickly he became a leader within the group, which speaks volumes about his character.
“Just watching him field yesterday, not to mention bowling the 20-odd overs he did, clearly shows he has a big heart.
“He has integrated seamlessly into the team. I’m hopeful we can create more memories together in the future.”
O’Neill has now amassed a total of 133 first-class wickets at an impressive average of 20.03. Last season, he took 38 wickets in the Sheffield Shield.
