Leicester City and Premier League legend Jamie Vardy has declared that he will be departing the club this summer when his contract concludes.
Vardy dedicated 13 seasons to the King Power Stadium and has been hailed as the Foxes’ ‘greatest-ever player’ by the club itself.
The forward made his move to Leicester City in 2012 from Fleetwood Town for a transfer fee of one million pounds. Over his 13-year tenure with the club, he secured two Championship titles, an FA Cup, and, most notably, the Premier League trophy in 2016 under the management of Claudio Ranieri.
This marked the climax of Vardy’s remarkable journey, having transitioned from non-league football with Stocksbridge Park Steels to becoming a top-flight champion and an England international.
In a statement on the official Leicester City website, club chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha remarked: “Jamie is one of a kind. He is not only a fantastic player but also an extraordinary person. He holds a special place in the hearts of everyone associated with Leicester City, and he certainly has my highest respect and admiration. I am endlessly thankful for everything he has contributed to this football club.”
Throughout his time with the Foxes, Vardy has made nearly 500 appearances, finding the net over 190 times, including a record-breaking streak of 11 consecutive goals during their Premier League title-winning campaign.
Vardy’s last match at the King Power Stadium will be against Ipswich on May 18th, while his final outing for Leicester will take place against Bournemouth on May 25th.
