Cricket icon David Warner has raised eyebrows with a surprising proposal to venture into politics.
The former Australian opener, who scored just under 19,000 runs and is widely considered one of the finest players to excel across all three formats of the game, concluded his international career last year.
At 38, Warner continues to showcase his talents in domestic T20 leagues, currently making waves with the Sydney Thunder, who reached the Big Bash final this past summer.
However, in an unexpected social media update on Monday night, he posed a question to his 2.7 million followers about the possibility of entering parliament.

“I reckon it’s time I joined and became a member of parliament!! What do you reckon?” he shared on X.
When asked about his potential role in Australia’s political arena, Warner indicated he would advocate for local initiatives.
“I’m keen to understand what people truly need; insights are valuable,” he remarked.
“Lower income tax, getting more money into people’s pockets, increasing GST. I’m not sure what the answer is. But we must prioritise protecting local interests!!! Support Australian products.”
While a move into politics may seem unlikely, it could see him follow in the footsteps of Wallabies legend David Pocock, who is now an independent senator in the ACT.
Rugby league great Glenn Lazarus also had a brief political career from 2013 to 2017, while his former Raiders teammate Mal Meninga had a notorious transition, leaving politics during his first radio interview after taking up the role.
