Darren Lehmann is sceptical about the effectiveness of England’s bold tactics, especially in the challenging conditions of Australian pitches this summer.
Since Brendon McCullum took the reins as coach, England has embraced a strategy known as ‘Bazball’, which has produced mixed outcomes.
While it failed to secure an Ashes victory at home two years ago, McCullum’s team has managed to triumph over other nations in Test cricket with this approach.

England’s next challenge is a highly anticipated series against India in the middle of the year, where they are expected to be strong contenders.
However, Lehmann, the former Australian coach, questions the sustainability of this strategy down under in 2025.
“England will likely win at home; that’s just how it goes,” Lehmann stated on Sky Sports News.
“India is a solid team, but I’m confident England will come out on top. I don’t foresee them losing a match … My belief is that they will dominate and settle many doubts,” he added.
“Then they have to contend with Australia, where the real challenges will emerge. They haven’t won a Test in Australia for roughly 15 years, so a significant turnaround will be required.”
Lehmann’s remarks follow comments from retired opener David Warner, who dismissed any notion that England could reclaim the Ashes on Australian soil.

With a formidable bowling line-up, Australia is poised to retain cricket’s most coveted prize in their ever-expanding trophy cabinet.
“David has a deep understanding of the game,” Lehmann pointed out.
“Bazball thrives on flat pitches, that’s a fact … but when the wicket offers any assistance, it tends to falter. England is an exciting team to watch, but it will be fascinating to see how they cope if conditions change,” he said.
“Under such pressure, I struggle to see them excelling.”
