After making a spectacular comeback in Sri Lanka, Australian Test opener Usman Khawaja has taken aim at his “haters”.
Khawaja amassed a remarkable 295 runs across three innings during the two Tests in Galle, highlighted by an astounding double century in the first match. This performance helped Australia secure its first clean sweep in Asia in almost twenty years.
Once the celebrations died down, Khawaja shared a collection of photos from the tour and re-posted an astonishing statistic noting that the Australians currently hold the ‘trophy’ against all active Test nations, along with the World Cup and the World Test Championship, all while sitting atop the rankings.
“Nothing lasts forever, but I’m grateful to be part of it. What an achievement,” Khawaja captioned his Instagram post.
He added a green tick next to each of the Test-playing nations before delivering a cheeky jab at his critics.
“Haters will always hate. But for now, we have it all,” he remarked.
Khawaja is known as the most politically vocal member of the Australian squad and consistently voices his thoughts on human rights matters, particularly concerning the ongoing situation in Gaza.
His outspoken views and firm refusal to heed calls for his retirement have made him a divisive figure among cricket enthusiasts.
On the eve of the second Test, Khawaja defended renowned cricket journalist Peter Lalor, who was pulled off the air by SEN radio during the series after management objected to his social media commentary on the conflict.
Khawaja posted a screenshot of Lalor’s announcement regarding the decision, accompanied by a lengthy statement expressing his disapproval of the action.
The next Test for Australia will be the World Test Championship final against South Africa at Lord’s in June, followed by a three-Test series in the West Indies.
