Tottenham Hotspur have officially appointed Thomas Frank, the former Brentford manager, as their new head coach, as announced by the club on Thursday.
The Danish coach has signed a three-year contract to take the reins at the north London club, succeeding Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed last Friday.
To bring Frank to Spurs, the club reportedly paid around £10 million to buy out his contract with Brentford, which still had two years remaining.
His appointment faced some delays relating to discussions around his coaching staff, particularly concerning assistant coach Justin Cochrane’s move.
Despite Brentford’s desire to retain the highly regarded Cochrane, he will now join Frank at Tottenham, returning to the club where he previously served as a youth coach.
Additionally, Brentford’s head of athletic performance, Chris Haslam, and analyst Joe Newton have also made the move to Tottenham.
A statement on Spurs’ official website stated: “We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Thomas Frank as our new Head Coach on a contract that extends until 2028.”
“Thomas brings a wealth of experience from English football, having joined Brentford in 2016, making him one of the longest-serving managers in the Premier League today.”
“During his tenure at Brentford, he transformed the club from a Championship outfit to a stable Premier League side, consistently exceeding expectations over a significant period.”
“In Thomas, we are engaging one of the most forward-thinking and innovative head coaches in the sport. His proven track record in developing players and squads makes us excited for his leadership as we gear up for the upcoming season.”
Frank took the reins at Brentford in October 2018 and secured their promotion to the Premier League via the Championship playoffs in 2021.
Under his guidance, the Bees established themselves as a fixture in the top tier over four seasons, all while operating on a relatively modest budget.
Brentford finished the last season in 10th place, and now Frank faces the task of revitalising a Tottenham side that struggled, finishing as low as 17th.

Tottenham’s disappointing domestic season prompted chairman Daniel Levy to part ways with Postecoglou, despite the Australian’s success in the Europa League.
Postecoglou had led Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years, achieving victory over Manchester United in the Bilbao final, only to be dismissed a mere 16 days later.
Praise for Frank from the Bees
Brentford’s director of football Phil Giles commented: “From the moment he stepped in for Dean Smith, Thomas truly grasped what we aimed to build. His wisdom, coaching prowess, and emotional intelligence have played a pivotal role in transforming the club.
“However, it goes beyond what is visible on the pitch. He developed a unique bond with our supporters, enhanced player development, and was instrumental in establishing a culture that has seen Brentford thrive.”
“We will always cherish Thomas, but now it’s time to express our gratitude and embark on the next steps in our journey with a new leader we believe can be just as successful and impactful.”
