Jon Dahl Tomasson was understandably frustrated following Sweden’s disheartening 1-0 loss to Luxembourg, even though it was just a friendly match.
The year 2025 has commenced on a sour note for Sweden, who suffered a 1-0 defeat away at Luxembourg in an international friendly held at the Stade de Luxembourg.
Tomasson opted for a formidable starting line-up, with Alexander Isak and Anthony Elanga spearheading the attack, while Robin Olsen guarded the net.
Olsen, the Aston Villa goalkeeper, was left powerless to prevent Luxembourg’s solitary goal just before half-time. A deep corner from Danel Sinani found Seid Korac at the back post, who headed the ball through Olsen’s legs.

Despite boasting a potent attacking force, Sweden struggled to create meaningful chances during the match, managing only two shots on target compared to Luxembourg’s seven.
In the aftermath of the match, Tomasson expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance:
“We need to review this match, but to be honest, I’d prefer not to – I’ve had enough pain in my eyes. However, we do need to assess what went wrong.”
“It’s a very disappointing result. I detest losing, but Luxembourg fully deserved their victory. We failed to adhere to our principles, playing a sluggish game rife with technical errors. We neglected to make deep runs,” Tomasson stated, as reported by Fotbollskanalen.
Sweden will look to bounce back when they take on Northern Ireland in another friendly on Tuesday.
