Tijjani Reijnders has opened up about his decision to leave AC Milan for Manchester City.
The Dutch midfielder secured his €55 million (£46.5 million) transfer just in time for City’s registration for the Club World Cup.
“They reached out to my father at the end of the season, searching for a number eight. For me, there was no doubt about wanting to join Manchester City; it’s one of the foremost clubs in the world at the moment,” Reijnders shared with Sky Sports.

“The decision was straightforward. Naturally, Milan will always hold a special place in my heart; I enjoyed two fantastic seasons there and met wonderful people. However, one must also consider the sporting opportunities.
“I aim to achieve significant milestones in my career, and I believe I can do that here relatively quickly.”
Pep’s the ultimate coach
Reijnders acknowledges that the opportunity to play under Pep Guardiola was a significant factor in his decision.
“That’s certainly a major aspect; he is regarded as the best coach in the world. I’m excited to learn and adapt to a new style of play. I can’t wait to dive into it,” he remarked.
He further commented: “I’m a box-to-box midfielder who enjoys taking on the ball, contributing to the build-up, and connecting to the attacking phase to create assists and score goals. That’s what I hope to bring to City.”
