Jason Day has had to get his Masters attire cleared in advance after a knitted vest he donned last year sparked criticism from tournament officials.
During his Friday morning round at last year’s competition, Day represented with a white knit vest featuring the words ‘No.313 Malbon Golf Championships’ prominently displayed across the chest.
However, when he arrived for his second round later that day, the vest was nowhere to be seen. Tournament organisers insisted that he take it off.
As he prepared for this year’s return to Augusta National, Day acknowledged that his first-round attire from last year was “a touch excessive,” which led to organisers requiring him to submit his outfit plans for pre-approval.

“In terms of our apparel, they mentioned that my choice was a bit much, but that’s understandable,” he remarked.
“We’ve had to send in our outfits now – I believe I’m among the few who have to submit their plans for approval. It’s reasonable. It was a bit excessive on Thursday.”
The dress policy at Augusta National is notoriously rigid, with fans, members, and players all adhering to the same guidelines.
Spectators are prohibited from running on the grounds, and mobile phones are strictly banned.
After spending the majority of his career adorned in the Nike logo, Day joined Malbon in early 2024. The former world No.1 expressed his willingness to adapt his style.

“It’s fine. I understand the reasons. We’re here for the tournament,” the 37-year-old remarked.
“This is what brings us back every April. We’re here to compete, and I completely understand.
“We’ll make the most of our fashion options and enjoy the game.”
When will The Masters 2025 take place?
The Masters is set to occur at the prestigious Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, from April 10-13 (April 10-14 AEST).
The first rounds will commence late Thursday night, culminating in the tournament on Monday morning.

Which Australians will compete in The Masters?
This year, five Australians are in the field: Cameron Smith, Jason Day, Min Woo Lee, Cameron Davis, and Adam Scott.
Among them, Scott is the sole Aussie to have won the prestigious green jacket, triumphing over Angel Cabrera in a sudden-death playoff in 2013.
The Masters prize pool
The precise prize fund isn’t disclosed until after the event, but in 2024, Scottie Scheffler collected $6.03 million for his victory. Runner-up Ludvig Aberg took home $3.6 million.
Three players tied for third – Tommy Fleetwood, Max Homa, and Collin Morikawa – each received $1.7 million.
Cameron Smith, finishing tied for sixth, earned $1.1 million.
Even those who do not make the cut receive a portion of the prize fund, with 2024’s amount being around $16,000 (US$10,000).
Can Masters winners play Augusta anytime?
Somewhat. Masters winners are designated ‘honorary members’ at Augusta. They can play anytime they wish, provided it’s with a full member.
So, while the direct answer may be no, there aren’t many members who would refuse the chance to host a former Masters champion for a round.
Is Tiger Woods participating in The Masters?
No. After undergoing surgery for a ruptured Achilles earlier this year, Tiger Woods will not be competing in The Masters this year.
Woods has not participated in an official tournament since the Open last July; however, he did partake in the indoor TGL simulator league he co-founded.
He also missed The Masters in 2022 following a harrowing car accident that nearly claimed his life.
