Harry Redknapp has launched a scathing attack on the new England manager, Thomas Tuchel, referring to him as “a German spy” and seemingly mimicking a Nazi salute during a charity event.
As reported by The Guardian, the 78-year-old former manager voiced his concerns about Tuchel while addressing questions at the gathering, labelling him “a German spy” and later appearing to perform a Nazi salute.
Tuchel, who has become the third foreign coach to lead the England national team, secured victories in his first two matches against Albania and Latvia, with his side netting five goals and not conceding any.
The comments made by Redknapp occurred prior to Tuchel officially starting his tenure, and while the former Tottenham chief seemed to be light-hearted, his remarks have sparked controversy.
Redknapp stated: “To be honest, I reckon he’s a German spy. I’m not joking. Honestly, he’s been sent over to sabotage us. He has.”
“It’s like he’s channeling Lord Haw Haw from the war – ‘We have your finest soldiers detained’ and all that.”
He then adopted a thick German accent, uttered “Ja,” and raised his left arm, which appeared to mimic a Nazi salute.
