Take a look at the finest goals from the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
Sydney FC has secured the future of one of its brightest young stars by offering midfielder Wataru Kamijo a new four-year deal.
Recently honoured as the club’s Young Player of the Year, Kamijo had a standout season in 2024-25, making regular appearances for the team in both the Isuzu UTE A-League and AFC Champions League Two competitions.
After making his league debut in a scoreless draw against Perth Glory at the end of February, the tenacious midfielder ended the season having made eight appearances in total, with six of those being starts in the Sky Blues’ midfield.

In addition, Kamijo played five times in Sydney FC’s journey to the semi-finals of the ACL Two competition, having gained the confidence of head coach Ufuk Talay.

“I’m truly honoured to be staying with Sydney FC for the next four years,” Kamijo expressed after the announcement of his new contract.
“This club has provided me with my opportunity, and I believe I’m in the perfect environment to grow and evolve into a top-tier midfielder.
He further stated, “I’ve already gained a wealth of knowledge and I’m eager to work hard next year to secure a regular spot in the A-League Men’s squad. The future with Sky Blue excites me immensely.”

Building on his impressive debut season in the Isuzu UTE A-League, Kamijo’s outstanding performances earned him a call-up to the recent Young Socceroos squad for their tour of Argentina, putting the 19-year-old in contention for a place in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.
“Wataru delivered a remarkable first year with the A-League Men’s squad,” remarked Sydney FC head coach Talay, who has also recently committed to a new one-year contract.
“He brings an admirable enthusiasm and drive to our midfield while maintaining a rare calmness on the ball for someone of his age.
Talay added, “He’s an astute player, and I firmly believe he has the potential to become a significant influence for this club in the coming years.”

Kamijo is the fourth player to sign a new contract with the club this off-season, as Sydney FC gears up for the upcoming season.
Young goalkeeper Gus Hoefsloot has secured a new three-year deal, seasoned defender Alex Grant has agreed to a two-year contract, while midfielder Rhys Youlley has joined the Sky Blues on a three-year deal from Belgian Pro League side Westerlo.
