Patryk Klimala has commended the influence of forward Adrian Segecic, who once again made a significant impact off the bench, helping Sydney FC secure a thrilling 3-2 victory against Adelaide United in the Isuzu UTE A-League.
The Sky Blues took the lead twice at Coopers Stadium thanks to Klimala, who reached 10 goals for the season, but were brought back to level terms by home side’s Archie Goodwin, who emerged as the new Golden Boot leader with a brace.
In an exhilarating finish, Sydney snatched a dramatic late winner in South Australia courtesy of Segecic’s goal in the 94th minute, propelling them into the top six at the expense of their opponents.

“I believe I could have scored more than a hat-trick, and that was on my mind after the match,” Klimala chuckled while speaking to Paramount+ at full-time.
“But we have our super sub, and he helped me out a bit, as I would have felt guilty if the match ended 2-2.”
“It is what it is,” he added when reflecting on his own performance. “I’m pleased to have scored two goals and to be heading to Singapore in a positive mood.”
Now sitting on 10 goals for the season, Klimala took full advantage of two mistakes made by Adelaide’s young goalkeeper Max Vartuli, who was making his debut in the Isuzu UTE A-League.
“I did keep an eye on this goalkeeper,” Klimala revealed when discussing the errors turned in by Adelaide’s shot-stopper.
“I wasn’t well-acquainted with him, but I noticed that he seemed unsure whenever a shot was taken, especially if he was outside the box, and I decided to exploit that.”

“Today, I found myself in the right place at the right time, and I’m very happy that I was able to contribute to the team’s victory.”
When asked how he managed to study Vartuli given it was his debut, Klimala credited the club’s goalkeeping coach for providing valuable insights.
“Yes, I reviewed some clips with the goalkeeping coach before the match. He showed me footage from what I believe was a youth game.”
“And, yes, I attempted to apply what I had seen.”
With four matches remaining and now positioned in the top six, the Sky Blues are set to face Singaporean side Lion City Sailors on Wednesday night in the first leg of their ACL Two semi-final clash.
