The Manly Sea Eagles appear to have commenced their quest for a new halfback to fill the shoes of Daly Cherry-Evans.
As reported by Michael Chammas from 9News Sydney, the club has expressed interest in acquiring Canberra Raiders playmaker Jamal Fogarty since late last year.
“The Sea Eagles have had their eye on Canberra’s halfback Jamal Fogarty as early as November, looking to find a suitable replacement for their captain,” Chammas noted on Wednesday evening.
“They’ve pinpointed Fogarty as the perfect halves partner for Luke Brooks to take over from Cherry-Evans once he departs.”
However, the situation is complicated by the fact that Fogarty’s contract with the Raiders includes an option that can be activated by round six, effectively securing his services.
“If the Raiders opt not to exercise that option, he will enter free agency, allowing Manly to commence official negotiations.”
At 31 years old, Fogarty is stepping into his prime years as a halfback and has had a promising start to the season with the Raiders. Nevertheless, the club is also nurturing young talents Ethan Strange and Ethan Sanders for the long term.
