Following his team’s Europa League final loss to Tottenham, Ruben Amorim stated that if Manchester United no longer wished to have him, he would “leave the very next day” without seeking any compensation.
Brennan Johnson found the net just before the interval in Bilbao on Wednesday, and United were unable to respond.
This defeat has added to a dismal season for United, marking their lowest league finish since being relegated in 1974.
In an emotional address to the media, Amorim maintained that he would remain steadfast despite a troubling streak of results since stepping in for the dismissed Erik ten Hag in November.
The former Sporting Lisbon manager expressed his belief in his ability to turn the situation at Old Trafford around but made it clear he would resign if he was no longer valued.
“If the board and the supporters believe I am not the right fit, I will go the very next day without any discussions about compensation,” he remarked.
“However, I am not planning to resign. I have every confidence in my role. As you can see, my approach will not change.”

Amorim declined to speculate about his future, stating that United needed to “come to terms with the defeat and the pain of this loss”.
“I believe it was evident that we were the superior side, yet we couldn’t find the back of the net again, which makes winning football matches very challenging. The players gave their all to secure a win,” he commented.
“There will be time to evaluate everything in the future.”
When Amorim assumed management, United were close in pursuit of a Champions League spot, but they now languish 27 points behind fifth-placed Chelsea.
“We must recognise that it’s hard for a club of our stature to be outside of the Champions League,” he added.
“However, we need to leverage this opportunity. With more time, we can reflect, prepare during the week, and improve in the Premier League. That will be our main goal.”
