PSV Eindhoven, the reigning Eredivisie champions, have officially welcomed goalkeeper Nick Olij from Sparta Rotterdam.
The 29-year-old Olij has committed to a four-year contract with PSV, with the club securing his services for €3 million.
Having played every minute of the previous Eredivisie season for Sparta and conceding just 43 goals—ranking among the best in the league—Olij is thrilled to have made the leap to a prestigious Eredivisie outfit.
“It feels like a dream come true,” Olij stated on the club’s website. “I have eagerly awaited this moment to sign my contract.”
“Following the Sparta-PSV match, I was made aware that the club was genuinely interested in pursuing this opportunity. I then had a discussion with the coach concerning my potential role and the team’s playing style, which left me with a positive impression. We’re essentially starting afresh, which is fitting for a top club like PSV. I must prove that I can be a valuable asset to the squad.”
‘Outstanding option’
In conjunction with Olij’s signing, PSV also confirmed that Argentine goalkeeper Walter Benitez will depart the club at the end of his contract this summer.
Football director Earnest Stewart praised Olij’s capabilities, saying, “With Nick, we have secured an outstanding option for our goalkeeper position. He is exceptionally proficient at building play from the back and aligns perfectly with the playing philosophy that our coach and club embody.”
