Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio is set to join Al Ain on a short-term deal for the upcoming Club World Cup, the UAE-based club announced on Saturday.
“Al Ain has secured the services of Portuguese custodian Rui Patricio to compete with the squad in the 2025 Club World Cup,” the team stated on X, referring to the 37-year-old international who is making his move from Atalanta.
“Patricio is expected to arrive in the United Arab Emirates tomorrow evening to complete medical examinations and integrate into first-team training,” Al Ain added.
With a remarkable 108 appearances for Portugal, Patricio was instrumental in their triumph at Euro 2016 and has previously played for clubs such as Sporting Lisbon, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and AS Roma.
Al Ain, who clinched the AFC Champions League title in 2024, were finalists in the 2018 Club World Cup held in front of their home supporters.
The restructured 32-team tournament is set to take place in the United States in June and July.
Al Ain finds themselves in Group G alongside Juventus, Manchester City, and Morocco’s Wydad.
FIFA has initiated a special transfer window from June 1st to 10th, allowing clubs to sign players specifically for the tournament.
