Nuno Espirito Santo has stated that Nottingham Forest will embrace a “no-excuses” mindset ahead of their Premier League encounter with Manchester United on Tuesday, following a taxing FA Cup quarter-final against Brighton.
Forest secured a spot in the semi-finals after triumphing on penalties at the Amex Stadium, following a goalless draw.
The Forest manager disclosed that every member of his squad is currently under evaluation in preparation for United’s visit, but he remains adamant that the pursuit of Champions League qualification will continue unabated, regardless of who is fit to play.
The two-time European champions are currently positioned third in the Premier League, sitting five points clear of fourth-placed Chelsea as they approach the final nine matches of the season.
It is almost certain that finishing in the top five will guarantee a spot in next season’s Champions League.
“No excuses. We won’t be offering anyone a reason,” Nuno asserted on Monday. “We will assess the players, prepare thoroughly, and compete vigorously.
“It’s certainly challenging for the players, but they are recovering well and maintaining a positive attitude, which gives us confidence heading into a match against a strong side.
“These quick turnarounds are all about recovery, and fortunately the kick-off is in the evening, allowing us a full day to refine our preparations, so we should be ready.”
Striker Chris Wood, who missed the Brighton game due to a hip injury sustained while on international duty with New Zealand, remains uncertain for the clash against Ruben Amorim’s United.
“He is making progress and getting better each day. We’ll keep assessing him daily,” Nuno noted.
“It’s crucial that he is free from pain before we focus on regaining his fitness. He is dealing with a significant contusion, which is quite painful.”
