The Newcastle Jets have officially announced the appointment of Stephen Hoyle as the head coach of their Ninja A-League squad, signing him to a contract that spans two seasons.
Hoyle joins the Jets after serving as an assistant coach at Napier City, a club in the New Zealand National League, while also contributing his expertise to the New Zealand Under-17 women’s national team.

Hailing from Barnsley, England, Hoyle takes over from Ryan Campbell, who guided the Jets for one-and-a-half seasons in the Ninja A-League, initially stepping in as interim coach back in 2024.

While Campbell continues in his position as technical director of the club’s girls academy, Hoyle is set to lead Newcastle’s Ninja A-League team through to the conclusion of the 2026-27 season.
“I am truly thankful to be appointed as the head coach for the A-League Women’s team,” Hoyle expressed following the announcement.
“My vision is to cultivate an environment where everyone is dedicated to achieving success on the field, strives to be the best version of themselves, and feels proud to represent the local community.
“I am eager to get onto the training pitch and collaborate with both the players and staff to develop a team that is united, brave, and makes a positive impression in Newcastle.”

“His ambitions and vision for the team left a strong impression on us throughout the interview process. It’s evident that he is passionate about women’s football and is committed to fostering a successful programme for our A-League Women’s side, ready to lead the charge.
