As the sun set on the horizon, Rory McIlroy seized the opportunity during the official green jacket ceremony to share a heartfelt message with his daughter, Poppy.
“Never, ever give up on your dreams. Keep returning, keep putting in the effort, and if you truly commit yourself, you can achieve anything,” he said, his voice trembling with emotion.
During the decade-long wait since his last major triumph, sceptics had cast doubts on his mental resilience as the dry spell dragged on. With two double bogeys in his final round, that resilience was certainly put to the test.
McIlroy expressed his disbelief at being able to don a green jacket once again.

“I recall watching this tournament with my father when I was just 7 or 8, witnessing Tiger Woods during his incredible 1997 performance,” McIlroy shared.
“That inspired me to chase the dream of becoming a golfer. To be up here wearing one of those green jackets, it truly feels like a dream realised. Today, my dreams have come to fruition.”
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime honour to stand here. I’ve envisioned this moment for so long, and I eagerly look forward to being back here next year, in Scotty’s shoes, hopefully putting the green jacket on myself.”
