Algerian defender Rayan Ait Nouri has signed a five-year contract with Manchester City, making the switch from Wolverhampton Wanderers, as announced by the club on Monday, ahead of this month’s Club World Cup.
The financial terms of the deal have not been revealed, though reports from the UK suggest that City has paid approximately £33.7 million for the services of the 24-year-old, who had one year remaining on his contract with Wolves.
Ait Nouri began his journey with Wolves on loan from the French club Angers in 2020, before sealing a permanent move the following year. He departs Wolverhampton after five seasons, having made 157 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing 19 assists.
In a statement on the club’s website, Ait Nouri expressed his enthusiasm: “I am incredibly happy and honoured to have joined Manchester City.”
“I am also looking forward to working with Pep and his coaching team, as well as training and playing alongside such a world-class group of players.”
Director of Football Hugo Viana commented: “Rayan is a player we have been closely monitoring for quite some time, and we are thrilled he has joined us,” he stated.
“He brings a wealth of Premier League experience and has shown his skill on the international stage with Algeria.”
Wolves are now without two significant players from last season, following Matheus Cunha’s move to Manchester United on June 1.
City finished third in the 2024-25 Premier League campaign, only securing a place in the Champions League on the final day of the season.
Pep Guardiola’s team will next compete in the Club World Cup in the USA, where they will face Wydad AC in their first match on June 18, followed by games against Al-Ain and Juventus in their other Group G encounters.
